The Foundation and the Scattered Hotel

By the end of the 20th century, Corippo faced the very real danger of becoming nothing more than a crumbling ghost village. To save this architectural jewel from ruin, the Fondazione Corippo was established in 1975. The foundation gradually acquired abandoned buildings and sought a sustainable way to revive the village without destroying its character through conventional mass tourism.

The Village as Hotel

The solution was found in a concept unprecedented in Switzerland at the time: the «Albergo Diffuso» (the scattered hotel). Instead of constructing a new hotel complex, the village itself became the hotel. With an investment volume of approximately 4 million Swiss francs, historic stone houses were carefully restored under the strictest heritage conservation regulations and fitted with modern infrastructure on the inside.

The hotel, which opened in 2022, now offers accommodation for 22 guests in 10 rooms distributed throughout the village. The historic osteria on the village square serves as the multifunctional centrepiece: it is reception, dining room for gourmet cuisine with local produce, and meeting point for locals and guests alike.
